Sea Hearts FAQ

Is Lombok Dangerous?

Lombok is a predominantly Muslim island that is home to moderate Muslims for the most part.  Years ago instances of violence involving radical Muslims did occur, however, today you’ll find most of the local people welcoming and hospitable.  Kuta is a tourist hub where you’ll find travelers and expats from all over the world.  You will feel safe in our accommodation and when traveling by private van with local guides.  At the villa, there is 24 hour security.

In light of the recent devastating earthquakes in Northern Lombok, it is important to note that Southern Lombok was not affected.  All is safe and functioning normally in and around Kuta.

What currency is used and how much should I bring?

The official currency of Indonesia is the Indonesian Rupiah.  $1 USD is about 15,000 Rupiah and $1 AUD is about 10,000.  Thus, you’ll find that things often cost millions or even billions of Rupiah!  Budget 200,000 to 300,000 Rupiah per day for dinner and drinks (depending on how many Bintangs you have!).  Also budget for extra snacks or souvenirs you may wish to buy.  You can exchange money in Bali, take money out of an ATM in Bali or use the ATMs in Lombok.  We recommend having multiple ATM cards or a travel card because ATMs on both islands can be finicky.

How do I book my flight?

To get to Lombok, you must first get to Bali.  Book your flight to Bali either for the day before the retreat starts or to arrive at least 4 hours before your flight to Lombok.  We highly recommend booking your flight to Lombok far ahead of time so you can fly Garuda Indonesia.  Garuda not only allows board bags to fly for free, but is much more reliable, on time and has better service.  If you arrive to Bali too late to transfer to the domestic terminal, the easiest thing to do is to stay the night at the airport Novotel and get on the first flight in the morning.  Please contact us if you have any difficulty booking your inter-island flight.

Lombok International Airport is Praya (LOP) and is serviced by Garuda, Lion Air and Wings.

* Your passport must be valid for a minimum of 6 months following the departure date.

Do I need a visa to enter Indonesia?

140 Nationalities are granted FREE, visa-less entry into Indonesia for 30 days.  This visa cannot be extended past 30 days.  Check and see if your country has a Visa Exemption here

Where can I purchase travel insurance?

Sea Hearts Surf Club requires that you purchase travel insurance to participate in a trip.  We recommend World Nomads.  You may also want to consider medi-evac insurance, which is something many surfers who travel to remote locations swear by, we use Global Rescue

What are the necessary vaccinations?

Make sure your routine vaccinations including tetanus are up to date.  You should consider getting Hepatits A and Typhoid vaccines.  It is always advisable to exercise caution to prevent mosquito bites, however, malaria is not widely known to be an issue in Lombok.

What should i bring?

You’ll receive a packing list with your welcome kit but if you’d like to have a look online, click here.

will there be wifi?

Yes! You might not be able to live stream the latest episode of Queen of the South but you will be able to keep in touch with your loved ones overseas and upload a picture or two of the great times you’re having.  Plus pretty much all the cafes and restaurants have Wifi as well.  If you have an unlocked phone, you can also purchase a local SIM Card for quite cheap if you want to make local calls or use data outside the villa or cafes.

i have dietary restrictions, will i be able to eat?

Of course, please let us know about your dietary restrictions and we will let the staff know for breakfast.  As for other meals, you’ll find diverse offerings with something for everyone.  Check out our favorite restaurants here.

Why aren’t all meals included?

All inclusive is easy but it can also be boring and with all the great restaurant and cafe choices walking distance from the villa, we wanted to give you the ability to do what you want.  Plus, we want to spread the love.  We love Kuta Lombok and want to see the local eat street and bars thrive.  So get out there and sample all Kuta has to offer.

can i come by myself?

Hell yes! While pairs or groups of friends are always welcome, we love a solo traveler looking for adventure and surf stoke.  The Sea Hearts Surf Club is one big family no matter who you are or who you show up with.
