“It was just the best! A beautiful mix of surf breaks, local guides were fantastic and Audrey’s guidance was invaluable . Our accommodation was lovely and the group of women we shared the experience with was amazing! I loved every minute.”

Mel, South Coast NSW

“I had an amazing time, and the group was wonderful. The schedule had the right balance between being organised, and also allowing flexibility for surfing conditions and how people in the group were feeling. The tips I learned while on Surfari have already made a huge difference in the way I surf. I really noticed the difference since I returned home.”

About the Surfing

improve your surfing in good waves

No matter where you are on your surfing journey, the wave-rich region surrounding Kuta Lombok offers something for everyone.  Unlike Bali, Southern Lombok is home to sheltered spots offering reprieve from big swells, waves with sand bottoms or “gentler,” not-so razor-sharp reefs and lots of options to get out of the wind.  The tricky part about this area is finding the best waves for a given day.  Selecting the best spot given the swell size, direction, wind, tide and driving distance can be tough without local knowledge.  That’s why our trips feature local guides who will take the guesswork (and extra driving) out of getting the best waves for your skill level.

Where you will surf

  • Gerupuk: Inside is a gentle right-hander often frequented by beginner to intermediate surfers. Outsides is a more challenging left-hander. Boat access only. Don Don is a easy wave inside the bay that breaks left and right.
  • Ekas: Similar to Gerpuk, except less crowded. If conditions allow, all surfers will take a full day boat trip to Ekas. Inside is a right and left that suits beginning to intermediate surfers, Outside is a more challenging, bigger left-hander. Boat access only.
  • Mawi: Mawi picks up heaps of swell, often has favorable winds and changes drastically from low to high tide. You can go left or right. Low tide is best suited for experienced surfers, while high tide on a small day can be enjoyed by all skill levels.
  • Tanjung Aan: Fun right-hand wave for all levels located on famous tourist beach.
  • Selong Balanak: Beach break perfect for beginners, longboards and those wanting a less powerful wave.
  • Are Guling: Epic right-hander but a far paddle for experienced surfers only.
  • Seger: Right and lefts surfed on small swell by all levels.
  • “Secret” Spots: Our guides often have little known spots to check when the conditions align.

Prepare for your retreat

We offer a phone call service if you would like to discuss anything about this Surfari, book a time to chat with me here.

Note that proof of travel insurance is required before you arrive.

As surfing is a strenuous sport and to best enjoy your Sea Hearts experience, we recommend commencing physical training 4-6 weeks before you arrive.  When receive we your deposit, we will send out our Pre-Trip Surf training program to ensure you’re in shape to rip when you arrive.

Is Lombok safe?

Yes – Lombok is generally a safe and welcoming destination. It’s a predominantly Muslim island with a long-standing culture of hospitality. While past incidents made headlines years ago, today’s Lombok – and particularly Kuta in the south – is a thriving travel hub with a chilled-out mix of locals, expats, and surf travellers. You’ll be staying in a secure boutique hotel with 24-hour security, and all local transport is arranged in private vans with trusted guides.
While earthquakes do occur in parts of Indonesia, Southern Lombok (where our retreat is held) was not affected by the 2018 quakes in the north. The area remains safe, peaceful, and fully operational.

What currency is used and how much should I bring?

Indonesia uses the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR). Roughly speaking:
$1 AUD ≈ 10,000 IDR
$1 USD ≈ 15,000 IDR
So yes, you’ll be spending in the millions! Budget around 400,000–600,000 IDR per day for meals, drinks, and snacks — that’s about $40–60 AUD. ATMs are available in both Bali and Lombok, but they can be unpredictable — we recommend bringing multiple bank cards or a travel card. Money can also be exchanged at official counters.

How do I get to Lombok?

First, book your international flight to Bali (DPS). From there, you’ll need a short domestic flight to Lombok International Airport (LOP). We recommend flying with Garuda Indonesia if possible – they’re reliable, include surfboards for free, and run on time.

If your international flight lands late, stay overnight at the Bali Airport Novotel.

Aim to arrive in Bali at least 4 hours before your Lombok flight if connecting same-day.

Let us know if you need help booking flights — we’re happy to assist! We’ve also got a whole blog post on getting from Bali to Lombok including board bag fees and non-flying options.

Do I need a visa to enter Indonesia?

Most travellers can enter visa-free for 30 days (not extendable). Check if your country is eligible for a Visa Exemption here.

✈️ Make sure your passport is valid for 6+ months beyond your return date.

Our Bali Checklist has everything you need to know before you go to Indonesia.

Do I need travel insurance?

Yes — travel insurance is required for all Sea Hearts trips. We recommend:

World Nomads for general coverage
Global Rescue or similar for medivac insurance (optional but great for surf adventurers)

What vaccinations do I need?

Routine vaccinations (tetanus, MMR, etc.) should be up to date. Many travellers also get:
Hepatitis A
Typhoid

Mosquito-borne illnesses are rare in Lombok, but bring repellent just in case.

What should I bring?

You’ll get a complete packing list in your welcome kit. For now, check out the Surf-Ready Packing Guide to start dreaming and prepping!

Will there be Wi-Fi?

Yes! The hotel has reliable Wi-Fi, enough to check emails, upload photos, and stay in touch. Most cafes in town offer free Wi-Fi too. You can also buy a local SIM card for cheap if you want mobile data or to make local calls.

I have dietary restrictions — will I be able to eat?

Absolutely. Let us know your restrictions and the hotel will accommodate them for breakfast. Kuta Lombok also has a wide range of restaurants with plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free and allergy-friendly options.

Why aren’t all meals included?

We love giving you the freedom to explore. Kuta Lombok has an amazing food scene – healthy cafes, spicy Indo staples, beach bars, and wood-fired pizza. You’ll get a welcome dinner on us, and we encourage you to try something new every night. It’s part of the adventure!

Can I come solo?

Hell yes! Many of our guests come solo – and leave with new surf sisters for life. Whether you come alone or with friends, Sea Hearts is built on connection, encouragement, and fun.

How do I reserve my spot?

Fill out the application form:

1. We’ll confirm your room choice and availability

2. Pay your $500 deposit to lock in your spot

3. Final payment is due January 15, 2026

We also offer payment plans — just ask!

What’s the cancellation policy?

Because this is a small-group retreat with limited availability, all payments are non-refundable. This ensures we can honour our commitments to accommodation providers, surf guides, and other partners.

Deposit ($500 AUD): Non-refundable

Full payment due by January 15, 2026

Cancellations after deposit: No refunds will be issued. If we can resell your spot, we may offer a partial refund (minus a $300 admin fee), but this is not guaranteed.

No refunds within 30 days of the retreat start date, regardless of the reason (including illness, injury, or travel disruptions)

We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance as soon as you pay your deposit, including coverage for illness, injury, natural disaster, or flight cancellations.

Spaces are limited to just 8 guests – this will sell out!
